Ginger Dutschman and Susan Grill: Reiki Sisters

GINGER DUTSCHMAN, RM

Ginger began her working life as a pharmacology researcher at various prestigious institutions, finishing her 45 career at Yale University. During her time at the University of  North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she spent time in Taiwan in studying traditional Chinese medicinals. At Yale, she spent time studying Chinese and African herbs for anti-viral and anti-cancer effects.  She trained a number of Ghanian scientists and is considered a honorary Ghanian.

She has contributed to over a 100 published scientific papers, most available on PubMed. Ginger holds a BS in Biochemical Pharmacology from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a MA in Laboratory Science from Quinnipac University.

On retirement, she went to a number of conferences where she kept hearing about Reiki healing.  She found that the concept of Reiki made no sense to her scientific mind, but was intrigued enough to investigate it.  Ultimately, it lead to several years of study and practice, under Reiki Master and Teacher Marita Aicher-Swartz,  She has Usui and Karuna Reiki I, II, and Master.. Ginger is considered a talented healer, and predominately practices in pain therapies, although all of the Reiki practices focus on the wholeness, spiritual, mental and physical and wellbeing.

SUSAN GRILL, RM

Sue's career is much like Gingers'. Sue began her working life as a pharmacology researcher at various prestigious institutions, finishing her 34 career at Yale University. During her time at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she spent time in Taiwan in studying traditional Chinese medicinals.  She spent her years in scientific research working in many fields of study, including anti-cancer and anti-viral drug development.  At Yale, she spent time studying Chinese and African herbs for anti-viral and anti-cancer effects in conjunction with Western Medicine. She has contributed to over a 50 published scientific papers, most available on PubMed.   She continued to work in research at Yale until her career was cut short due to debilitating and extremely painful diseases.

Sue attended University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the State University of New York at Buffalo, were she earned her BS in Biochemistry.  She earned her MA in Pharmacology at Yale University.

Later, she went to a number of conferences where she kept hearing about Reiki healing.  She found that the concept of Reiki made no sense to her pragmatic and scientific mind, but was intrigued enough to investigate it.  Ultimately, it lead to years of study and practice, under Reiki Master and Teacher Marita Aicher-Swartz,  She has Usui and Karuna Reiki I, II, III, and Master. Sue is considered a talented healer, and predominately practices in pain therapies, although all of the Reiki practices focus on the wholeness, spiritual, mental and physical and wellbeing.

In Loving Memory of Ginger Dutschman

Beloved Friend • Reiki Master • Gentle Healer of Hearts and Spirits

There are some souls whose presence feels like sunlight breaking through clouds — steady, warm, and unmistakably kind.::Ginger Dutschman was one of those rare souls.

Her life was an offering of compassion. She carried within her a rare tenderness for the suffering of others, meeting pain with calm understanding and sorrow with unshakable gentleness. To those who came to her in need — in grief, in confusion, in exhaustion — she gave what she had in abundance: love without judgment, presence without pretense, and peace that felt like home.

As a Reiki Master, Ginger devoted her life to healing in its truest form — not merely of the body, but of the spirit. Her work was guided by a deep reverence for the world’s wisdom traditions, drawing inspiration from both Chinese and African healing practices that honor balance, energy, and the sacred interconnectedness of all living things. She understood that love and light are universal languages, and she spoke them fluently through her touch, her laughter, and her prayers.

Her compassion reached far beyond her practice. Whether comforting a friend through loss, listening quietly when words failed, or simply sitting in stillness beside the weary, Ginger had a way of reminding everyone that they were not alone. She was a living sanctuary.

Born to June Stendahl and Walter Dutschman, and preceded in death by her siblings Sue Hoag and Robert Dutschman, Ginger grew from a strong lineage of love. Though her family of birth passed many years ago, she built her chosen family with grace and devotion — a circle of kindred spirits who found in her both refuge and friendship. To them, she was sister, confidante, teacher, and joy-bringer — a steady light through every storm.

Ginger’s faith ran deep and quiet. She found God's glorious light,  in sunrise, in kindness, and in the courage it takes to keep loving in a hurting world. Her spirituality was not a belief to be argued but a life to be lived — and she lived it fully.

Now she joins those who have gone before, carried into eternity on the currents of divine love. Her body rests, but her spirit continues to move among us — gentle as a breeze, radiant as morning light, eternal as the love she shared so freely.

Those blessed to have known Ginger will carry her lessons always:

    That compassion is sacred.

    That healing is possible.

And that love, when given wholly, never ends.
